So, there’s this game—No Sleep For Kaname Date. Just got its big debut on the Nintendo Switch 2. I mean, who thought of that title? Anyway, it’s from AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES series, and I guess it’s kind of exciting, if you’re into that kind of thing. The premise? It’s like—hey!—solve mysteries while chasing UFOs or something. Iris Sagan, this internet star, is kidnapped. By aliens! (Or was it not? My memory’s a bit fuzzy.) So now, you’re this Special Agent, running around with your AI buddy, trying to piece it all together.
So far, it beats me why this reminds me of No More Heroes. Maybe because it’s just as bonkers—like out of the ballpark crazy. Who would have thought mixing mystery with a touch of sci-fi could be fun?
Oh, and while we’re talking about it, do we even discuss how games still throw in cool voice actors? Greg Chun as Kaname Date, for instance. Makes it all sound so dramatic, but in a good way… you know? Sometimes, the voice acting just hits that sweet spot.
Now, onto gameplay—which, admit it, is what we really care about, right? You’ve got your Investigation parts. It’s honestly like a point-and-click but on steroids. Rumaging through clues while swiveling your camera around. It’s your typical crime-solving, Sherlock Holmes-y style. Use your AI eye to see hidden stuff. Remember those old escape rooms? Yeah, it’s got some of that too. Unravel puzzles to escape, and please, don’t take forever because this game loves to remind you of time limits. Just don’t overthink it. Or maybe do. Who am I to judge how you play?
Anyway… dreams. Yep, the game has dreams. Dive right into suspects’ dreamscapes for answers. Funny story, tried that once—didn’t work out well for me. Focus on unlocking Mental Locks. Extend that dream time, because if you don’t, well, you might just miss something crucial.
And hey, difficulty settings are a thing. Depending on how much challenge you’re up for, adjust your level. The game caters to both die-hard fans and the not-so-hardcore too. I mean, any game should, right? It’s got the Story mode if you just want, well, the story. Then the easy, and standard for, I guess, normal humans.
Odd little detail for you but, collecting ‘Eyes’—how do they even come up with these names? Use them for unlocking goodies as you progress. It’s sort of the game’s way of patting you on the back. Consider it the cherry on top of your detective work!
The grand release is this coming July 25. (Is that soon? Feels soon.) Gonna set you back 40 bucks. Maybe a tad pricey? I’ll let you decide on that one. P.S. There’s a Switch version too. So, take your pick.
Anyhow, that’s my take—or maybe my rambling—on No Sleep For Kaname Date. Dive in if you’re up for some weirdly thrilling alien-chasing crime-solving adventure. Or not. Your call!
