Alright, so it’s Wednesday while I’m jotting this down, and guess what? PlayStation’s got a new studio they want us to meet. Don’t worry, they don’t bite. Only the execs do that—and only on Mondays, probably. Anyway, this new crew is called teamLFG. They’re cooking up this multiplayer game, and here’s the kicker: it’s inspired by something they’re calling “frog-type games.” Yeah, I’m just as puzzled.
So, I saw a post on the PS Blog—totally casual. It’s like Sony big shot Hermen Hulst is showing off his new pride and joy, all “check out my new kid,” but, you know, don’t flunk or you’re outta the will. Harsh seas out there in the live service world, I guess.
Let’s get the name part straight. TeamLFG—stands for “Looking For Group” instead of something more, uh, colorful. Based in Bellevue, Washington, it’s a mix of fresh faces and seasoned gamers—some from Destiny, Halo, League of Legends, the whole shebang. Basically, an offshoot of Bungie.
They’re hyped about this mix: kickass action gameplay, that sweet game feel, and virtual worlds where you might actually make friends. Maybe even some you’d invite over IRL. Well, they’re into making games where you can belong somewhere, at least in a digital universe. Unpack that how you will.
They’re doing live-service multiplayer thingamajigs—on brand with PlayStation’s all-in live-service vibe. First up? An “incubation project” which is such a fancy term, straight from news about previous Bungie layoffs. Not awkward at all.
Their newbie game is some team-based action deal inspired by a melting pot—fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and yes, those elusive “frog-type” games. So, picture this: a fun, mythic, science-y fantasy world. Could be a riot once they spill more details.
“Frog-type games” though? Not like Frogger, or whatever Frog Detective is. It’s a mystery that lingers. Is it a blend of Tekken, Mario, Dota 2, with a sprinkle of, I dunno, Crazy Frog from back when the internet was young and confused? Maybe not exactly, but they love early access playtests, so we’ll see.
What do you reckon? Is a Crazy Frog-style Overwatch or Fortnite mashup just what PlayStation ordered? Is teamLFG onto something big? You tell me. Or, maybe just think it loudly.
