Alright, buckle up because this is going to be a bit of a ride. So, Stainless Games, you know, the folks behind Carmageddon — which, by the way, gave me nightmares back in the day — just had a bit of a shuffle at the top. Ben Gunstone, who’s been hanging out there since, what, 2022? Yeah, he’s now the big boss, the CEO. He’s stepping into the shoes of Patrick Buckland, who’s basically been at the helm since, like, forever. Okay, since 1994, but same diff in tech years.
Gunstone’s journey has been a bit of a whirlwind. He first came on board as some sort of game director. Fast forward three years and boom, he’s the operations director. Honestly, the guy’s really been climbing the ladder like it’s nobody’s business. And, fun trivia, before he joined the Stainless crew, he was hanging around at Dovetail Games. Not sure for how long, but I guess long enough to know his stuff.
Now, picture this: Gunstone gets the news and he’s all, “Wow, I’m thrilled and kinda surprised to land this CEO gig.” He throws in a nice nod to Buckland, saying the guy’s left a crazy good legacy over the past three decades. I mean, who knew time could fly like that, right? He’s grateful to have Buckland as a sort of wise guru, showing him the ropes as the Executive Chairman.
Then there’s Buckland’s little dad joke about turning 62 — claims he doesn’t look a day over 70, wink-wink, nudge-nudge. But he’s all about passing the torch and maybe dialing down the stress that comes with running a software company. But he’s not vanishing! No way. He’s sliding into the Executive Chairman role, still clutching onto that passion for making games. Like, he’s the majority shareholder, so it’s not like he’s going anywhere. Stainless is still his baby, and he says that with a bit of a proud grin, I bet. He’s just ready to see Gunstone steer the ship while he watches things grow. Onwards and upwards, as they say.
