Hello Team,
I have an important update to share about Sigil. After months of thoroughly testing the alpha version, we’ve had to face the reality that our goal for Sigil, envisioned as a major standalone game with its own unique monetization strategy, won’t be achieved. Consequently, we can’t sustain a large-scale development effort, and most of the Sigil team will be leaving the company this week. Despite this, we’re incredibly proud of what the team has accomplished and want to ensure that fans and players on DDB get to enjoy their work. Therefore, Sigil will transition into a feature within DDB. A smaller team will remain to support Sigil and to roll out the products already developed, all at no extra cost to our users. For those who will be moving on due to this decision, we’re committed to offering substantial support, including severance packages, a 2024 bonus, career placement services, and whenever possible, opportunities within the company.
I would like to take this opportunity to commend the Sigil team for their outstanding effort in delivering this product to our community. One of the aspects I’m most proud of at D&D is our deep sense of purpose. We strive to honor our existing players while also ensuring that D&D continues to foster connections and bring joy to the generations to come. This was precisely the mission of the Sigil team. Although we’re not able to fully scale Sigil as we intended, the team has much to be proud of.
Thank you for your understanding and ongoing support. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out.
Best,
Dan
