Alright, so picture this. EA just threw this Battlefield 6 multiplayer bash. I mean, it was all about the core of the franchise — the essence, you know? But there was one thing people really wanted to see that didn’t quite get the spotlight.
We got maps, features, modes — the whole shebang, but, uh, still, something felt off. It was like keeping a secret everyone already knew, but they just hinted at it. There’s this new battle royale mode. Ripple Effect is behind it — those folks who did Battlefield Portal. They dropped a tease in the end, kind of a blink-and-you-miss-it moment.
I remember trying to take it all in. Players were running — like running from something unseen. Bam! Turns out it’s a giant wall of fire. Yeah, it’s a thing. Vehicles zoomed in and out, nothing shocking there though.
And hey, no one straight-up called it battle royale, or said it’s named Firestorm. But if you see a ring of fire closing in, it’s pretty much a dead giveaway, right? Feels like they’re giving Firestorm another go after Battlefield 5. Maybe they keep the name; maybe they don’t. Who even knows? It’d be kinda funny if they did since there’s an Operation Firestorm map too — talk about mix-ups.
The whole teaser didn’t really clue us in on whether this mode will hit shelves with Battlefield 6 on October 10. But, they did mention Battlefield Labs folks will play it soon. A glimpse of hope?
Oh, and even if they don’t name it Firestorm, bet it’ll be free-to-play. Just like Call of Duty’s Warzone. Free games pull people in. EA wants 100 million players for this one. At least that’s the vibe I’m getting.
