It seems like Warner Bros has pulled the plug on a planned expansion for Hogwarts Legacy. According to Bloomberg, this expansion was supposed to accompany a Definitive Edition of the Harry Potter action RPG, which would have introduced some new storylines.
The decision to cancel came after some deliberation over whether the content was substantial enough to justify the price point they had in mind. Originally, this expansion was being crafted by Avalanche Software, the same team behind the main game, along with Rocksteady. It appears Avalanche has shifted focus and is now diving into a sequel for the Harry Potter series.
Interestingly, Rocksteady has been experiencing its own set of challenges. They recently had to let some staff go, following their announcement to stop supporting the 2024 game, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
Warner Bros has openly acknowledged that their gaming division hasn’t been hitting the expected marks. Just last year, they took a financial hit of $200 million writing off the cost of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. In a string of tough decisions, the company also shut down three studios, including Monolith. On top of that, their long-standing leader, David Haddad, chose to step down recently.
