Even though IGN recently reported otherwise, Nintendo has yet to officially announce a rescheduled pre-order date for the Nintendo Switch 2 in North America. IGN’s report points to a detail from Nintendo’s own pre-order FAQ, which states that the first batch of invites for their pre-order program is set to be sent out on May 8th. However, this date has been unchanged in the FAQ since it was first made public on April 2nd, just two days before the delay was originally announced. We’ve double-checked this information using the Wayback Machine to look at the site when it initially went live.
The delay in Switch 2 pre-orders was primarily due to tariffs imposed by former President Donald Trump on multiple countries, which significantly affected the shipment of Switch 2 systems to the United States. Although many of these tariffs have been greatly reduced after a 90-day suspension, Nintendo has not yet provided any updates or new plans regarding pre-order details for North America.
