Nintendo says, “Hey, remember Mario Paint?” and boom—it’s coming to the Nintendo Switch Online. I mean, it’s kind of a big deal. They’ve finally added it to the Super Nintendo channel. But if you’re rocking a Nintendo Switch 2, heads up, you might need some extra add-ons to play. Of course, Nintendo Switch Online isn’t free—you’ll have to shell out some coin to get access to all those old-school games. But hey, you get the Super Nintendo channel tossed in for the price of admission.
Honestly, it’s been ages since they added a Super Nintendo game. Last we saw was, like, March 2025? Makes it even better considering it’s a Mario game—that good ol’ 16-bit awesomeness that’s been off the radar for a while. I guess Nintendo’s been too busy throwing us all the fancy Nintendo 64 and GameCube rereleases. But now? Classic Mario’s making a comeback!
Okay, so, picture this: After hanging out on the Super Nintendo for what feels like forever, Mario Paint finally pops up on Switch Online. Seriously, this game needed a mouse back in the day—that’s why they didn’t drag it into the future sooner. But the new Switch 2 controller? Yeah, it acts like a mouse now. So, early Switch 2 folks can just jump in without extra gadgets. If you’re on the old Switch though, don’t worry, a USB mouse can still make it work.
Oh, and there’s a new trailer out showing off Mario Paint on Switch Online. Super helpful if you want to figure out that mouse thing on the Switch 2. But despite its name, the game does more than just painting. It’s got this music-maker feature from way back that lets players whip up tunes. Classic, right? Now you can even save your tunes using suspend points. Plus, you can jam to the original tunes from Mario Paint straight on the Nintendo Music app.
Sure, Mario Paint might not be the shiniest gem in Mario’s crown. Yet, it’s legendary in its own quirky way. Digital artists and musicians have looked up to it since forever. Remember that fan remake of the Succession theme? Yep, pure Mario Paint magic. With it back in the spotlight, I’m hoping more folks dive in and create their own music and art adventures. Here’s to letting creativity run wild with Mario Paint on the Switch!
