Just before the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2, CD Projekt Red has spilled the beans about an upgrade to their forthcoming port of Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition. They are integrating Nvidia’s Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) upscaling technology to enhance both handheld and docked gaming experiences. What’s more, players on Switch 2 can choose between a 30 FPS quality mode and a more fluid 40 FPS performance setting, especially when using displays that support a variable refresh rate.

The news comes at a bustling time for Nintendo as they gear up for the Switch 2’s release. After some delays in pre-order availability in the US and Canada due to tariffs imposed by the Trump administration, Nintendo has confirmed that pre-orders will kick off on Thursday, April 24. These will be available through retailers like Best Buy and GameStop. While the tariffs won’t lead to higher prices for the console or its games, the cost of accessories like the Switch 2 Pro Controller and USB-C Camera has seen a slight uptick to cover these additional expenses.

Thanks to a beefier Nvidia processor in the Switch 2 over its predecessor, developers now have the room to incorporate advanced features like DLSS to achieve better performance on the console. According to Nintendo Life, CD Projekt Red confirmed to Digital Foundry that Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition will be pushing boundaries with Nvidia DLSS upscaling. Gamers will have the flexibility to switch between Quality Mode at a steady 30 FPS or the snappier 40 FPS Performance Mode. Both modes will offer unique experiences depending on whether you’re playing docked or handheld, providing players with diverse upscaling possibilities.

The Switch 2’s Cyberpunk 2077 Leverages Nvidia DLSS in Both Modes

Cyberpunk 2077 is set to tap into Nvidia’s DLSS technology on the Switch 2 to deliver enhanced graphics. Whether you’re gaming docked or on-the-go, both Performance and Quality modes will be available. The docked Quality modes are primed to deliver 1080p graphics, while the handheld performance setting will upscale the visuals to 720p.

Digital Foundry’s Richard Leadbetter, in the DF Direct Weekly episode 210, mentioned that both the docked and handheld versions of the Quality mode are designed to run at 30 FPS at 1080p. Meanwhile, if you dock your console, the Performance mode will aim for 40 FPS at this resolution, provided your display setup supports a 120 Hz refresh rate. In handheld mode, the game adopts a dynamic resolution approach at 720p to maintain that same 40 FPS. Cyberpunk 2077 will employ an older version of Nvidia DLSS, compatible with the Switch 2’s custom Tegra processor, which means DLSS 4 and features like multi-frame generation won’t be part of the package.
