If you’re gonna toss players into the action grindfest of your game again and again to level up or whatever, you better have a wicked combat setup. That’s sort of why Dead Cells rocks, right? Along with other roguelikes like Hades 2, Returnal, Rogue Legacy 2—combat’s just… fun. I mean, swinging swords or dodging enemy fire? It makes failing less of a drag. And apparently, Ovis Loop is doing some wild stuff with its combat that’s kinda cool. They have a playtest on Steam, so maybe check it out if you’re curious.
Okay, so Ovis Loop. It’s this roguelike where you’ve got a sheep, but not just any sheep, it’s a robot walking on two legs. Weird, right? Anyway, it’s trying to survive against these totally vicious wolves. Lucky for the sheep, it swings around this giant sword like a pro. And get this—you snag skills from fallen foes, download ’em like they’re apps or something, and mix things up using some deckbuilding method. Not gonna lie, that sounds like a chaotic blast.
But—ugh—lose a fight, and bye-bye to all the gear and skills you picked up. Makes every level a bit of a nail-biter, I’d say. Gotta test out the combat tricks to make it through.
Oh, and it’s dropping sometime this year. You can wishlist it on Steam, sign up for that playtest if it tickles your curiosity.
Or, hey, if you’re into this kind of stuff, there are other action-packed indie games on PC you might dig.
