2XKO is making waves with the announcement of a new offline mode where all champions are unlocked. This feature has been introduced to help grassroots tournament organizers, who are eager to promote events without the hassle of unlocking champions on every account through extensive playtime.
This exciting news was shared earlier this month during a 2XKO community tour in France. During a lively Q&A session, Tom Cannon, the executive producer, pondered aloud about how much he should reveal before finally deciding to share the details of this offline option with the audience.
“I get it—setting up multiple game stations for a tournament can be a huge pain,” Tom explained. “We want to simplify that process, ensuring you can host an event without needing internet access or jumping through hoops to unlock champions.”
“So, here’s what we’re planning,” he continued, chuckling slightly. “You can play the game offline, and yes, all champions will be unlocked for tournament organizers. However, not all content will be available—skins, for instance, won’t be included. But at least you can compete with all available champs offline. That’s our main focus.”
Tom also emphasized their commitment to supporting grassroots events and expressed an interest in feedback about which features would be most beneficial.
For those involved in organizing competitive fighting game events, this development could be a major advantage. Previously, dealing with an always-online system could present several obstacles. Organizers would need reliable internet at venues—often requiring pricey fees for several days of use. And having to unlock champions across multiple accounts was a time-consuming process. This offline mode addresses those concerns, alleviating a lot of pressure on the organizers.
However, the introduction of this offline mode raises questions about how it will interact with Vanguard Anti-Cheat, Riot Games’ security software, which typically requires an internet connection and extensive system access. If 2XKO’s offline mode operates through the Riot Games launcher, there could be potential conflicts, given Vanguard’s design to run continuously whenever a Riot game is played.
We’ve reached out to Riot Games for more clarity on this aspect but haven’t heard back as of this article’s publication.
Nevertheless, this feature promises to be a big hit among the dedicated community members who relish in-person competition. That said, this offline mode probably won’t be available to the general player base, as 2XKO is a free-to-play game that’s reliant on community revenue. It seems likely that this will be a perk reserved for certified tournament hosts.
We’re eager to see how this offline mode unfolds. What are your thoughts on this new development? Share your opinions below!
