Whoa, so get this, right? Industry dude Chris Avellone’s now part of Republic Games. Yeah, I saw it on LinkedIn — because, you know, that’s where all the no-frills news wrinkles out. Adam Williams, who kicked off the studio, said something about Avellone joining their merry crew. He’s got quite the rep, apparently. I mean, not sure he needs any intro if you’ve been gaming for more than, like, a minute. He’s done some legendary stuff. Absolute class in RPG stories. A master, as Williams goes off about.
Okay, so Williams spills the beans to Eurogamer — hand up, didn’t know they were still around; thought they faded into some obscure blogspace or something. Anyway, backtracking here — where was I? Oh, right, so the studio’s knee-deep in this RPG. Sounds like it’s gonna be the kind of story where every choice might send you spiraling down some rabbit hole with a billion endings. Choices on choices, man. I’m already anxious just thinking about it.
Williams is just full of praise. Thinks Avellone’s the bee’s knees and all. He was hyping it up — talking about how Chris was a big deal back when RPGs were the main jam. (Side note: I somehow never got into those despite all the noise. Maybe too many lanes to choose from. Who knows?)
So anyway, they’re concocting this fantasy tale — dark, they say. Like, deeper than your average dungeon, I guess. Immersive too. You know, the kind where you might forget to eat because you’re stuck deciding if you should ally with the mysterious cloaked figure or, I dunno, betray them at the last minute.
Here’s the kicker — everyone’s buzzing in the studio. It’s all rah-rah, dream-team assembling vibes. But then, of course, the plot thickens. Back in 2020, some pretty serious stuff came up about Chris. Accusations, ugly ones about harassment. He flat-out denies it, though. Just like that. It’s a tangled web, but then again, when is it not?
Okay, there ya have it. Or maybe not. Anyway, let’s see what tumbles out next.
