Man, after what feels like eons, Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny is making a comeback! Yeah, it first hit the scene in 2002 — can you believe that? Time flies when you’re battling demons, I guess. Anyway, it’s the follow-up to Onimusha: Warlords, but this one ramps up the thrill with a new storyline. Enter Jubei Yagyu, a samurai fueled by vengeance. Sounds intense, right?
So, it’s a whole decade after the first game’s chaos, and you’ve got this demonic fella Nobunaga Oda ready to tear Japan apart, like he’s got something to prove. Anyway, Jubei comes back home, and bam, everything’s wrecked. Naturally, he’s not having it and decides it’s time for payback. Along the way, four colorful characters pop up to lend a hand. These aren’t your run-of-the-mill allies, mind you. You have to bribe — I mean, sweet-talk them with gifts to get them on your side. Each gift comes with its own quirks. Kinda like trying to get your cat to like you, right?
Gifts pop up everywhere — markets, friends, hidden in places you least expect. But don’t just toss them around all willy-nilly. Turns out, each ally has their own wants and whims. Get the gift just right, and voilà, they might even tag along as playable characters. That is, if you’re lucky enough.
Oh, I chatted with some folks at Capcom, asking them about their top gift reactions. Keep your eyes peeled during your playthrough. You might catch one.
First up, there’s this Buddhist priest dude, Ekei Ankokuji. He seems to have a thing for cash, booze, and the company of the fairer gender — not exactly the priestly vibe you’d expect. Funny enough, give him a huqin or folding fan, and he’s all ready to bust a move. It’s honestly hilarious.
Then there’s Magoichi Saiga from the Kishu Saiga Gun Team. Books are his jam, but don’t hand him just one. No solo book action for this guy — he’d rather binge-read a whole series. I get it, though. Who’s got time for unfinished stories, right?
Oh, gotta mention Kotaro Fuma, the ninja teen whose wit is sharper than his blades. I slipped him a Tengu mask once, and boy, did he not hold back on snarking it for ‘old folks.’ Lesson learned.
And Oyu. Ah, mysterious Oyu. She’s fighting demons in Western armor but still takes a moment to side-eye your gift choice, especially if it’s something like The Art of War. Just can’t figure her out — maybe that’s the charm.
Oh, here’s a wild one. Magoichi again — try pairing raw fish with wasabi, and watch the magic unfold. Apparently, that’s producer Kosuke Tanaka’s fave reaction.
Last but not least, touching on sensitive vibes — Ekei and anything hair-related, right? Offer a comb, and he reacts… well, let’s just say it’s a scene worth watching. Director Motohide Eshiro is all about it.
There’s a treasure trove of reactions and items to find in Onimusha 2: Samurai’s Destiny. So swing by Xbox One or Series X|S and dive into this remastered madness. Who knows? You might just reclaim your destiny, or at the very least, some epic stories to tell.
Oh, I almost forgot. Special features are packed in there, like modernized controls, a gallery with over 100 sketches, the original soundtrack — the whole shebang. You can even dress Jubei in a special outfit if you’ve got saves from Onimusha: Warlords. It’s mostly cosmetic, but hey, it’s the little things.
Anyway, watch out for the Onimusha bundle. Limited-time bonuses are up for grabs until June 2025. Grab it, play it, live it. I’ll stop rambling now. Just go check it out already.
