Okay, so here’s the thing. I totally got sucked into this whole Final Fantasy 14 thing after the 88th—I know, seriously, EIGHTY-EIGHTH—Letter from the Producer LIVE. These players, they’re like detectives on social media, right? One of ’em—who knows how they spotted this—said a contest-winning hairstyle might be sneakin’ into the 7.3 update. Hidden like some kind of easter egg in this San d’Oria armor preview. I mean, did someone sneak it in on purpose? Maybe. Or maybe it just slipped in there. Who knows?
During a recent livestream, Naoki Yoshida (you know, the big shot producer of FF14) gave the heads up that Patch 7.3, “The Promise of Tomorrow” (sounds intense, doesn’t it?), would launch on August 5. Of course, after some server maintenance. We can’t have anything without maintenance, it seems. This update’s set to wrap up Dawntrail’s main storyline, probably with some cryptic clues about what’s next—because what’s a story without a bit of mystery, right? Oh, and aside from the main story, we’re getting the Pilgrim’s Traverse deep dungeon (sounds deep, literally) and those Yok Huy allied society quests for all you crafters out there. Plus, there’s the next bit of the Echoes of Vana’diel alliance raid series. Quite the lineup, I’d say.
So, back to this hairstyle mystery. Folks noticed that while checking out armor rewards heavily inspired by Final Fantasy 11, there was this sneaky new hairstyle. Over on the good ol’ Reddit, a user named Pinkbunnies66 (love that name) wondered if a new hairstyle just accidentally wandered into the Patch 7.3 previews. Other Reddit sleuths suspected it was one of the 2023 contest winners. The hairdo in question? A medium-length style flaunted by a female miqo’te with armor from the San d’Oria raid. The cool part? The highlight is on the inside—makes for a sweet custom look.
Now, diving deeper. Even if the miqo’te was showing off bows, Pinkbunnies66 (and who wouldn’t trust someone with that name?) mentioned those bows were actually part of the armor set. If it turns out this hairstyle rumor is legit, it wouldn’t be the first time Dawntrail sneakily added contest winners. Remember Patch 7.15? It gave us A Half Times Two (I can never make sense of these names), available via Clouddark Demimateria II or good ol’ Gil.
Considering FF14 usually dishes out new hairstyles with major patches, seems fair to think The Promise of Tomorrow’s doing the same. It’s all about waiting to see if this rumored ‘do makes the cut in Dawntrail’s big patch and, more importantly, how we players can actually snag it.
That’s it, that’s all I got. Hopefully, you’re as stoked as I am to see if this style mystery gets solved or if it’s just one of those gaming legends that never pans out. But hey, who doesn’t love a good mystery once in a while?
