We’ve been diligently working behind the scenes to enhance the PS5 user experience, and today, we’re thrilled to unveil two significant updates inspired by player feedback: audio focus and the revival of the beloved classic console designs for the PS5 user interface.
Starting on April 24, the PS5 system update will begin its global rollout, so keep an eye out for it.
Here’s a closer look at these exciting new features:
Audio Focus
The new audio focus feature is designed to boost your gaming immersion. By offering presets that amplify quieter sounds to your liking, it ensures you have a crystal-clear audio experience when using headphones or headsets. This feature also extends accessibility for all audio experiences.
When you switch on audio focus, you’ll find a variety of preset options to make it easier to pick up on details like in-game character dialogue, subtle sound effects such as footsteps, rustling grass, and even voices in party chats—making your gaming experience that much more engaging.
-
To get started with audio focus, navigate to [Settings] > [Sound] > [Volume] > [Audio Focus]. You can also tweak these settings right from the Control Center during your gameplay.
-
Choose from four preset focus options depending on the sounds you want to enhance:
-
Boost Low Pitch: Perfect for amplifying low-frequency sounds like roaring engines and rumbling noises.
-
Boost Voices: Ideal for making voice chats, character voices, and other mid-frequency sounds stand out.
-
Boost High Pitch: Tailored for sharpening high-frequency noises like footsteps and metallic sounds.
- Boost Quiet Sounds: Great for elevating low-volume sounds across a range of frequencies.
-
-
You can fine-tune the level of support for each preset with three intensity options (Weak, Medium, Strong).
-
Additionally, the customization doesn’t stop there. You can separately adjust the left/right channel levels to suit your unique preferences.
- Note that audio focus is available with headphones connected via USB or an analog jack but isn’t supported for HDMI connections through TVs, AV receivers, or soundbars.
