Man, so the Nintendo Switch 2 is finally almost here. Like, it’s dropping in about a week or something. But you know how Nintendo is, keeping us on a breadcrumb diet of updates. They tossed some new stuff our way on this app—Nintendo Today or whatever. They’re promising a bunch of cool features for online play that’ll make old N64 games both more, um, forgiving and totally drenched in nostalgia.
First thing, get this—you can literally rewind your game. Yeah, like you goof up a jump in some platform game or send yourself flying off in Mario Kart 64 (trust me, I’m way too familiar with that scenario), you can just hit rewind. I mean, why didn’t they think of this sooner?
Oh, and they’re throwing in CRT filters. I kinda love this—well, it’s weird, but it’ll add those old-school scan-lines to the N64 games. So you can crank up that 1998 vibe with, like, Ocarina of Time looking all grainy and “retro.” Makes you wonder if we’re just suckers for punishment. Nostalgia’s wild.
Now, these goodies are exclusive to the Switch 2, right? But wait—it’s not all bad for the OG Switch peeps. Both systems will let you remap the controls for N64 games. So, turns out you can adjust the Joy-Cons or even the classic N64 controller. It’s like Nintendo remembered we’re not all playing with the same thumbs they designed these things for.
Anyway—oh, was there more? Nah, just playing. So that’s the dish for now. Fingers crossed this doesn’t turn into another one of those times Nintendo makes us wait forever just to hit us with another tiny update. Who knows what they’ll drop next?
