Hey, so… here we are. It’s the last hurrah for the good ol’ Nintendo Switch eShop before the new kid on the block, Switch 2, shows up next week. Honestly, it’s kinda like saying goodbye to an old friend. Anyway, let’s see what’s brewing in this week’s lineup. Spoiler: there’s a lot of retro vibes, plus some pre-orders and stuff. Let’s dig in—but wait, did I lock my door? Never mind.
Okay, Game Boy stuff first. I mean, Nintendo’s doing its thing by throwing in some oldies but goodies—four Game Boy titles to be precise. We got Survival Kids, a Kirby spin-off (who doesn’t love Kirby?), and the sci-fi blast that is Gradius. Oh, and we actually chatted about these on the Pure Nintendo Podcast last week. Maybe it was more fun live. Or not. Who knows.
And then there’s this whole Switch 2 shebang launching June 5. Pretty big deal, right? Like, everyone and their cat is pumped. If patience isn’t your thing, there are pre-orders open now—shoutout to Rune Factory, Sonic X Shadows, and Fast Fusion. Might snag one myself if I don’t get distracted by shiny things.
Also, sales! Yeah, sales. There are tons, but Dragon Quest is where it’s at—between 25% and 50% off. Last year’s Dragon Quest III HD-2D remake is tempting me. Gonna have to resist… or not.
Oh, and before I forget, there’s a sweepstake! Win a Mario Kart LEGO set. Sounds awesome, right? Even if you’re not into building stuff (like me, I can’t follow instructions), it’s still something to get excited about. Good luck, if you enter!
Anyway, so many new Switch titles this week. What are you diving into while waiting for the Switch 2? I’m curious. Not really, but let’s pretend I am.
Okay, Game Boy stuff—right:
SURVIVAL KIDS – Look, your skills might be rusty, but time to survive on a deserted island. Release your inner explorer-kid with a survival RPG from 1999, on the Game Boy Color. Storms hit, cruise fails, and bam, it’s survivor-mode. No one’s coming to save you, dude. So you better MacGyver this—food, water, tools—all on you. Available now for Nintendo Switch Online folks. Go, be a hero!
GRADIUS THE INTERSTELLAR ASSAULT – Your survival chances? Slim to none. Released in 1992, you shoot your way through doomships. Just… don’t think too hard about being alone out there. Three weapons—remember, no double equipping! Navigate your ship like a boss, because this ain’t a Sunday drive. It’s live now for Switch Online members, feel the nostalgia.
The Sword of Hope – Meet Prince Theo, the chosen one, because, well, birthmarks say so. Released in 1991, it’s RPG glory. Break the dark spell with THE sword. Or don’t. But then the land stays dark—your call. Use LOOK, hit OPEN, but HIT wisely. It’s ready for Switch Online peeps to explore some vintage fantasy.
Kirby’s Star Stacker – Kirby stacks stars and fights Dedede. Standard Wednesday, right? Stack well, avoid the wrath of birds, rodents, and the owl who… I honestly don’t know how he fits in. Anyway, strategize your heart out. It’s a brain workout disguised as a puzzle game—play it on Switch Online.
Pre-orders, yay or meh—I’ll let you decide:
Rune Factory: Guardians of Azuma: Switch 2 Edition – Engage with nature, fix things, flirt, farm—classic Rune Factory. Pre-order if this sounds like your jam.
SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS – Sonic and Shadow are back, mess up time itself, plus battles, bonuses, visual eye-candy, you get it. Pre-order now, or second-guess later.
Fast Fusion – Zoom through anti-gravity racing tracks. Fusion your vehicles. Redwoods to planets in seconds (kind of). Hyper jumps? Risky but cool. Pre-order? Sure.
Should I mention the Nintendo Music? Nah, this isn’t an orchestra. Activities then!
My Nintendo – LEGO Mario Kart Race to Win! – Enter till Sept. 3. Win or whatever. Google it for more, if you can focus long enough.
And done. Maybe. There are more eShop sales and new titles, but my brain’s full. Enjoy anyway, or don’t. Up to you.
