While all the seasoned Elder Scrolls fans (my colleagues included) are in high spirits over today’s surprise stream and release of The Elder Scrolls Oblivion Remake, those keeping an eye on future adventures will be thrilled to know that Todd Howard has assured us that The Elder Scrolls 6 is indeed still on the horizon. He even confidently stated that the team is actively working on it.
Ahead of rolling out all the juicy details and footage for the Oblivion Remaster, Howard dropped the simple yet exciting update: “obviously we’re working on the 6th chapter here.”
Wow. What a revelation! This is the most substantial update for The Elder Scrolls 6 since March 2024 when Bethesda revealed that early versions of the game were out there for testers. They even teased that the game was fun, which, to be honest, one would certainly hope for.
Before this, back in October 2023, we had a rather hot take from a former Skyrim designer who explained not to expect any news on ES6 until about six months before its release. Just a month earlier, Phil Spencer had mentioned he thought ES6 might be about five years away from its release date. This seemed a bit humorous back then, but here we are nearly two years later with still not much more to go on.
It’s important to point out that when it comes to concrete updates from Bethesda, the silence has been deafening for years. They only confirmed the start of development in August 2023, five whole years after the initial announcement at E3. I might be stepping into controversial territory here, but maybe, just maybe, they announced this game a tad prematurely?
All kidding aside, it’s refreshing to catch even a faint glimmer of progress on Elder Scrolls 6. It’s been so long. When the game was first announced, I was still in school, and now I’m navigating adulthood with all its quirks, bills, and dating apps. Bethesda, arguably still the best RPG creator, is sure to deliver something incredible. If I could make a small request though—could we at least get a piece of concept art? I mean, Liam Neeson in Taken had more evidence of his daughter’s existence than fans have that this game is real.
Feel free to share below if you still have any feelings left and speculate on how much student debt I might rack up before The Elder Scrolls 6 finally hits the shelves!
