During the early months of 2025, Freddy Krueger earned the title of deadliest killer in Dead by Daylight, achieving an impressive 69% kill rate. Along with Freddy, other feared killers such as The Lich, The Twins, The Blight, and The Nurse also made their mark with high kill rates. Despite these lethal statistics, escape rates for players varied between 41% and 48%. Curiously, Freddy didn’t break into the top 10 of the most-selected killers.
Behaviour Interactive recently shared insights into these statistics from Dead by Daylight’s community during the first quarter of 2025. The developer also made an announcement about future updates to keep players in the loop. For those unfamiliar, Dead by Daylight is a suspenseful game where one player takes on the role of a killer, hunting down other players known as survivors. With a lineup featuring characters from iconic horror stories, the game has hosted notorious figures like The Demogorgon, Albert Wesker, Pinhead, and the infamous Freddy Krueger.
The official stats revealed that Freddy reigned as the top killer from January through March 2025. Although his kill rate was exceptional, intriguingly, Freddy wasn’t the most popular choice among players. Names like The Mastermind and The Blight topped the popularity chart during this same window.
Behaviour also disclosed how survivors were faring in the game. Specifically, escape rates showed a slight variation across different match-making rating (MMR) levels, with a standard rate of 41% and 42% at high MMR. In group play, escape rates jumped to 48% at higher MMR.
Freddy’s transformation into a formidable opponent followed some significant tweaks by Behaviour. Previously pegged as a weaker character, the adjustments allowed him to interplay between Dream Snares and Dream Pallets fluidly, significantly bolstering his capabilities. While future updates may further adjust balance, Freddy currently stands out as a formidable option for players.
In the broader context of Dead by Daylight’s development, the game remains a prominent title since its launch on June 14, 2016. Running on the Unreal Engine 4, it continues to captivate and challenge players with its gritty themes of intense violence and strong language, maintaining its “Mature” rating by the ESRB. As the community eagerly awaits further updates, the game’s dynamic environment continues to evolve with each tweak and enhancement.
